Hand-made boots, cheap belt?
5 reasons guys who know style never do that!
5 reasons guys who know style never do that!
Your boots are handmade. Your denim's selvedge. You need the belt to match.
"All the belts I owned in the past were like noodles... this belt is a chunky piece of leather that elegantly defies gravity." - FT ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It's the piece the rest of the fit gets built around.
Most men pick the belt last. Start with it instead.
The brass ties to your rings. The leather pulls the tan out of your boots.
Six leathers, from Natural to Slate. Pick the one your boots already agree with.
"the best outfits are based around one specific piece. start there, don't overthink it." - Anthony Lauletta ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

One slab. Leather and brass. Nothing in the middle.
Most belts are two thin layers glued around a filler. You find out a year later, when it frays through the holes.
Ours is one piece of Wickett & Craig vegetable-tanned leather, 13 to 15 oz.
The buckle is solid brass, not plated, and held on with Chicago screws so you can swap it.
"Thick, heavy and real cow! Excellent hardware." - Lewis Thomas ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

In six months it won't look like anyone else's.
Full grain, no coating. So it takes color from your week.
Indigo crocks onto the back from raw denim. The bend goes light. Where your hand lands goes dark.
Two men could buy the same belt today, and in a year nobody would mix them up.
"It's just starting to patina. Can't wait to see how it ages." - Rachael Kanezo ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the belt the others want to look like.
Plenty of belts are styled to look like this one. Embossed grain, brass-colored zinc, painted edges.
They may look the same to start. They don't age the same.
Nicks has made boots in Spokane since 1964, and the belts come off the same benches.
"All around superior at a better price point." — Peter ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Made by the same hands that guarantee it.
The person who cuts your belt is the one who stitches and finishes it. No production line, no factory in between.
That's why the ten-year guarantee means something.
And every Thursday we build one live, start to finish.

Nobody Buys Just One
The plan is always one belt. Then another leather catches your eye. Two belts, 15% off. Three, 25% off.
Your Questions Answered
The things people actually email us about before they order.
Which leather should I get?
Depends how much you want it to change.
Natural Double Stuffed and Full Natural Skirting change the most. Buck Brown and Tan English Bridle start warm and deepen. Black and Slate look settled from day one.
Can't pick? Two belts are 15% off, three are 25% off.

Will it match my boots?
Not exactly, and it shouldn't. Matching leather to leather looks like a set you bought together. Work one shade off your boots and both look better, and once the belt takes its patina it'll settle into the range anyway.
Chicago screws or rivets?
Chicago screws. Rivets are permanent, which is fine until you want a different buckle or you damage the one you've got. With screws the buckle comes off with a screwdriver in a minute, so the belt outlives any single piece of hardware on it.
How long does it take to break in?
A few weeks of regular wear. It's stiff out of the box, because a belt that's soft on day one got there by being thin. It softens and starts taking colour inside the first month.
What size do I order?
Take your trouser waist and add four inches. A 34 waist usually takes a 38 belt.
Between sizes? Email customerservice@nicksboots.com before you order. Thirty-day returns on new, unworn belts.

Which width, 1.5" or 1.75"?
1.5" is the standard and the one most men should buy. It fits jeans, work trousers and most belt loops.
1.75" is for the wider look, or for carrying weight on the belt. Check your loops first. Some dress trouser and suit loops are a squeeze.

Will it stretch out like my last belt did?
Not the way a thin or filled belt does. At 13 to 15 oz there's enough leather to hold its shape, and the oblong holes don't pull into ovals.
All leather relaxes a little. That's break-in, not failure.

What does the ten-year guarantee actually cover?
If it fails because of how we made it, we repair or replace it for ten years. That covers stitching, hardware, leather separating and structural failure.
It doesn't cover normal wear, patina, scuffs or damage from soaking, cutting or chemicals. Not sure? Send us a photo.

Is it really American made?
Every belt is cut, stitched and finished in Spokane, Washington, in the same building as Nicks Boots. The leather is Wickett & Craig, a Pennsylvania tannery. We use US-sourced materials wherever we can get them.
How do I look after it?
Very little. Keep it out of prolonged soaking, and give it a conditioner once or twice a year if it starts feeling dry.
Don't try to keep it looking new. The marks are the point.
